Jewellery Care Guide

925 sterling silver is a precious metal that stays beautiful for years with a little care. Silver naturally darkens (tarnishes) over time when it reacts with air, moisture and chemicals. This is normal and can be cleaned. Follow these simple tips to keep your Bhavi Silver jewellery shining.

Everyday Wear

  • Last on, first off: put your jewellery on after perfume, lotion, hair spray and make-up, and take it off before you undress.
  • Remove jewellery before bathing, swimming, exercising, cleaning or cooking.
  • Avoid contact with perfume, sanitiser, chlorine, sea water, sweat and household cleaners.
  • Wearing silver regularly actually helps slow tarnishing, so do enjoy your pieces often.

Storage

  • Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or a zip-lock bag with the air pressed out.
  • Keep jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and bathroom humidity.
  • Add an anti-tarnish strip or a small silica gel packet to your jewellery box.
  • Store chains and anklets fastened and laid flat to avoid tangles and knots.

Cleaning Plain & CZ Silver

  1. Wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cotton or microfibre cloth after each wear.
  2. For a deeper clean, soak for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a few drops of mild soap or shampoo.
  3. Gently clean with a very soft toothbrush, especially around CZ stones and settings.
  4. Rinse with clean water and dry completely with a soft cloth before storing.
  5. Use a silver polishing cloth to bring back the shine.

Avoid toothpaste, baking soda, bleach and harsh chemical dips. They can scratch silver and dull CZ stones.

Gold Plated, Rose Gold Plated & Two-Tone Pieces

  • Clean only with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub hard or use a silver polishing cloth, as this can wear away the plating.
  • Keep plated pieces away from water, perfume and sweat to make the plating last longer.
  • Store them separately so they do not scratch against other jewellery.

Oxidised & Antique Finish Silver

  • The dark, antique look is intentional. Do not polish it or use cleaning dips, as this will remove the oxidised finish.
  • Simply wipe with a soft, dry cloth and store in an airtight pouch.

Enamel, Pearl, Mother of Pearl & Opal

  • These are delicate. Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.
  • Avoid soaking, chemicals and knocks, which can chip enamel or dull pearls.
  • Pearls and mother of pearl love to be worn. Put them on after perfume and make-up.

Rudraksha Pendants

  • Keep the Rudraksha bead dry. Remove the pendant before bathing.
  • Clean the bead with a soft dry brush to remove dust.
  • Occasionally, a drop of natural oil rubbed gently into the bead keeps it from drying out. Keep oil away from the silver.

Kids Jewellery

  • Check kids kadas, bracelets and chains regularly for loose charms or clasps.
  • Remove jewellery before sleep, bath and play time for safety.

With these simple steps, your silver jewellery will stay beautiful for years to come.
